Das habe ich mich auch gefragt, warum er wieder zurück zur Serie gehen will. Ich kann mir das überhaupt nicht vorstellen, wie er das nach sechs Jahren DC nochmal machen kann.

Roosevelt's "In the Shadow of the Law" did something I'd considered impossible: I actually sympathized for a fictional group of young, urban, professionals. If it can get any worse than that, they were lawyers. The characters' shockingly realistic personalities, neuroses, and mannerisms lead me to believe that Roosevelt is either an extremely keen observer of both self and peer, or possibly a genius slipping into both schizophrenia and multiple-personality disorder. Does it matter?

I would believe this work to be enjoyed most by fans of Joyce, Tolkein, or Herbert; it's language and character development both allow the reader a seamless transition into a world foreign to most, a world found only 'in the shadow of law.'

A novel that made me like novels again

I am not a big fan of novels (in spite of having a degree in English) but I gave this book a shot and was hardly able to put it down. It's beautifully written with characters so vivid, you can practically picture a movie version of the book.

Morgan Siler is one of Washington, D.C.'s most powerful K Street law firms, its roster of clients stocked with multi-billion-dollar corporations. Through the obsessive efforts of its founder's son, Peter Morgan, his father's old-fashioned business has been transformed into a veritable goliath, embracing bankruptcy and merger divisions that Archibald Morgan had deemed ungentlemanly. As Peter reaches the pinnacle of his career, his firm is embroiled in two difficult cases: a pro bono death-penalty case in Virginia, and a class-action lawsuit brought against Hubble Chemical of Texas after an on-site explosion killed dozens of workers.

Assigned to these cases is a group of young associates and seasoned partners struggling to make their way in the firm. Mark Clayton, fresh out of law school, is beginning to loathe his dull workload, and to be frightened by the downgrading of his personal life, when he is assigned to the pro bono case. Assisting him is the mercurial Walker Eliot, a brilliant third-year associate whose passion for the law is as great as his skill at unraveling its intricacies. Ich verstehe das irgendwie immer noch nicht. Warum? Er hatte doch gar keinen Grund. Vor allem am Geld kann es ja wohl nicht liegen. Langweilt er sich, fällt ihm die Decke auf den Kopf, wenn er nicht auf einem Set ist?

England 1973: Die introvertierte, 13-jährige Jüdin Holly und ihre gleichaltrige Busenfreundin Marina schwören einander ewige Treue. Die ungleichen Nachbarstöchter ahnen nicht, dass sie trotz wechselnder Lebenslagen, Freundschaften und Moden schmerzhaft aufeinander fixiert bleiben werden. Marina weiß in der ungleichen Beziehung stets, wo es lang geht. Als es 1978 endlich Zeit ist, die Jungfräulichkeit zu verlieren, schleppt sie ihre schüchterne Freundin mit auf eine angesagte Party, wo beide ihre Erfahrungen mit Sex, Drugs und Rock'n'Roll sammeln. Holly schläft mit Marinas älterem Bruder Nat, in den sie seit der Kindheit heimlich verliebt ist. Beide sind fest liiert, lieben aber ihre Männer nicht - und telefonieren täglich dreimal miteinander. Bis Nat eines Tages mit seiner französischen Frau Isabel nach fünfjährigem Amerikaaufenthalt zurückkommt.

Mal wieder Josh News. *irgendwie haben wir in letzter Zeit nur Josh und Michelle News* (und ich ignoriere ganz bewußt Barbie)

Mandy hat noch etwas zu dieser Anwaltsserie bzw. dem Anwalt gefunden:

Kermit Roosevelt spends his days poring over constitutional law as a Penn law professor, gaining notice in legal circles for such papers as "Exhaustion Under the Prison Litigation Reform Act: The Consequence of Procedural Error."
Now he's on Hollywood's radar, thanks to his novel from last summer, In the Shadow of the Law (Farrar, Straus & Giroux).

Paramount is about to shoot a pilot for a TV series based on the book, with Dawson's Creek alum Joshua Jackson as the lead.

Roosevelt, 34 and a great-great-grandson of President Theodore Roosevelt, describes the plot: "Young associates struggling with legal and ethical issues in a high-powered D.C. law firm." The pilot will be one of many projects offered this summer to networks.

Roosevelt will go back to the grindstone with his next work, a book aimed at nonlawyers, about the debate over judicial activism. "I argue that calling a decision 'activist' generally means nothing more than that the speaker disagrees with it," says Roosevelt, a Yale law grad and onetime clerk for Supreme Court Justice David Souter. "In place of the idea of activism, I offer a more useful method of evaluating Supreme Court cases, and I use it to assess the legitimacy of controversial decisions."

Kennt ihr seinen Film "Geliebtes Monster" (OT: Magic in the Water)? Der wird auf DVD herausgebracht. Laut Amazon kommt er hier am 4.April raus. In Nordamerika ist er allerdings schon seit dem 4.1.2005 draußen und GB bekommt ihn erst am 17.April. Für die GB- Version gibt schon ein Cover, das fast genauso aussieht wie das für die NA- Version. Also wird das deutsche vermutlich auch so ungefähr aussehen.

Ja, den habe ich schon vor jahren mal gesehen, der ist schon richtig alt. Wie kommts, dass der jetzt auf DVD rauskommt? Nur zuliebe der Josh-Fans?

Die Schule macht sich doch nur wichtig bzw lächerlich, als würde es Michelle interessieren, wenn ihre Schule Probleme mit ihren Filmen/Homosexualität hat, und dann so ein dummes Kommentar, also echt, manchmal kann man doch nur den Kopf schütteln!
