To learn the location of a stolen NSA code-breaker, an undercover Sydney must convince a murderous arms dealer to fall in love with her. Meanwhile, Vaughn fears that Weiss might have been killed on a mission, and Sydney and Jack argue about telling Nadia the horrible truth about her mother, Irina.

Sydney goes undercover as an earthy social worker and Vaughn as a lascivious, semi-tipsy priest to track down a deadly new bio-weapon. Meanwhile, Sydney is frightened when Vaughn's inner-demons regarding deceased wife Lauren come to the surface, and Nadia turns to a reluctant Jack to learn truths about her mother, Irina.
Saying Sidney will go to Russian is a pretty safe bet considering that there will be a few Russians in this episode. First, Anatoly Lavrov who's in his 40s and a Russian military man. Then, there is Boris Tambor, an in-his-30s handsome in a dark brooding way man. He is a Russian oil magnate who has put money into arms dealing. He is connected to the Russian Mafia which makes him untouchable. We'll also see a FSB agent. Leo Orissa is a rich European and a member of an organized crime syndicate. J.G. also said of the first ep: "There's a huge fight--and also JJ's scene with me in lingerie that I give him a lot of heck for. But it's really funny." And as for Syd and Vaughn, she said, "They are definitely still in love and are trying to find the best way to start a relationship. After everything that's happened they don't want to rush right into anything, but they're also crazy about each other. So, it's real life. It's messy."

Wow, okay, looks like TV Guide let the cat out of the bag on who dies on Alias, eh? Well, here's the dealio, I still think it's better that you don't know, so I'm not naming this person (took it out of the Q), but I will say this to those of you who do know: The person who did the killing might be somewhat obvious given the cliffhanger of last season, but the reason that person did the killing is a big shocking twist that I promise you, you do not want to know!

From what I've seen, no. Basically, it means a little less Rambaldi and going back to the kick-ass costume of the week (which I love), and we also get a new baddie: Syd's newest nemesis, a modern-day samurai named Tamazaki (Rick Yune). Sounds a bit Kill Bill, no? Sounds a bit like we'll love it, no? Trust me, guys, I really do think you will like the feel of the new season.

She's Still Got It
Alias is back in fighting form


It's OK, Alias. All is forgiven. But we appreciate knowing you're aware that, as disgruntled agent Vaughn puts it, "Last year sucked."

Absence (of more than six months) has made the heart grow eager for new adventures of secret superspy Sydney Bristow (the endlessly alluring Jennifer Garner).

As the fourth season begins, with a new night and time slot cannily positioned after smash thriller Lost (also from Alias creator J.J. Abrams), there is talk of "looking for a fresh start" and pretending "like those years didn't happen."

All not-so-subtle subtext as Alias returns with newfound confidence but also a bit of humility. It's no secret that the show stalled creatively last year by introducing a deadly — and deadly dull — double-agent wife for Syd's ex-lover Vaughn. Thankfully, he shot her in the season finale.

Alias wastes no time reuniting Syd's original team and cleverly reinventing itself, rather like Garner's own chameleon-like transformations each week. Instantly, we are plunged back into the visceral and emotional whirlpool of Syd's conflicted life as agent, lover, friend, daughter — and now, as half sister to Nadia (Mía Maestro), an even more reluctant spy siren with father issues of her own (her dad is the devious Sloane, played with enigmatic relish by Ron Rifkin).

As always, the fast-paced action and suspense are outrageously entertaining. A caper involving the theft of a samurai sword is Alias at its cliff-hanging best.

But Alias is also grounded in Syd's perilous psychological state, a sense that even those closest to her could betray her at any moment.

Never as confusing as it's reputed to be, this reinvigorated Alias is more fun than you can imagine.
